#4 Rock, Edinboro battle to 1-1 stalemate

Sept. 29, 2007

Final Stats

Edinboro, Pa. - The fourth-ranked Rock battled hosting Edinboro to a 1-1 stalemate in double overtime Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

The Rock took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Danielle Cooper in the 34th minute of action and that almost proved to be enough to give The Rock its 11th win in 13 outings this season.

But Edinboro took advantage of a Rock defensive lapse with two minutes left in regulation time to score the tying goal.

The teams' defenses then took over as only two shots -- both by The Rock -- were taken in the two 10-minute overtime periods.

Overall, the game's final statistics showed Edinboro to be the aggressor as the Fighting Scots outshot SRU by an 18-5 margin.

Rock goalie Lauren McManus was credited with 12 saves while Edinboro netminder Lisa Bartolowicz had only two saves.

The Rock (11-1-1 overall, 6-0-1 PSAC-West) will be idle for a week before traveling to Bloomsburg for a 4:30 p.m. PSAC "crossover" game next Saturday.

Even with the tie at Edinboro, The Rock remains comfortably in front of the pack in the PSAC-West race.

SRU has 19 points in the conference points system that awards three points for a division-game win and one point for a division-game tie. Edinboro (5-2-3 overall, 3-1-2 PSAC-West) is in second place with 11 points, followed by Clarion with seven, Indiana (Pa.) with six, Lock Haven with four and California (Pa.) with one.

The Rock has three division games remaining on its schedule: Oct. 10 at Indiana (Pa.), Oct. 18 at home vs. Clarion and Oct. 24 at Lock Haven.
