Hoover leads #4 Rock past California (Pa.), 3-1

Sept. 26, 2007

Final Stats

California, Pa. - Courtney Hoover scored a goal and had an assist Wednesday afternoon to lead the fourth-ranked Rock to a 3-1 win over hosting California U. of Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

The goal was the second of the season for Hoover.

Danielle Cooper and Mallory Neubert each rang up their fourth goal of the season to round out The Rock tallies, while Jaimi Wilson added an assist.

Rock goalie Lauren McManus was called upon to record only five saves as SRU dominated the proceedings. A 21-8 Rock advantage in shots and a 13-6 margin in shots on goal is evidence of that fact.

Wednesday's win was the 10th in 11 games for this year's Rock squad and gives SRU a double-digit win total for the 10th straight season.

The Green and White have failed to record 10 or more wins in only two Noreen Herlihy's 13 seasons as The Rock's head coach.

SRU is unbeaten in six PSAC-West games this fall and enjoys an eight-point lead over second-place Edinboro (5-2-2 overall, 3-1-1 PSAC-W).

The Rock travels to Edinboro for a noon game Saturday.

With a win in that game, SRU would virtually assure itself of the PSAC-West title, a first-round bye in the conference playoffs and a PSAC-best sixth straight trip to the semifinal round of the playoffs.

Wednesday's game was the first of four straight road games the Green and White will play before returning home Oct. 13 to host Charleston (W. Va.) in a non-conference game.

California, with the loss to The Rock, saw its overall record dip to 1-10-1 and its PSAC-West mark fall to 0-5-1.
