Sept. 22, 2007

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Whitney Warmus converted an assist from Ashley Paganie into a goal in the 39th minute of action Saturday afternoon to lead the third-ranked Rock to a 2-0 win over visiting Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The Rock, which improved its season record to 9-1, got an "own goal" for its first tally of the game as a Millersville defender inadvertantly tapped the ball past Marauders goalie Karrine Riggins and into the goal.

Although only scoring one goal of their own, the Green and White dominated the action, as evidenced by a 20-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Rock starting goalie Lauren McManus recorded three saves in the first 69-plus minutes of action, while backup netminder Sarah Lacy was not called upon to make a save in the final 21 minutes.

SRU returns to action on Wednesday, when it will visit California U. of Pa. for the opening game of the second and final round of PSAC-Western Division competition.

The Rock finished the first round of division play with a perfect 5-0 record and a five-point lead over second-place Edinboro.
