Rock knocks off Lock Haven, 1-0

Sept. 12, 2007

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Nick Christy knocked home a loose ball in front of the net in the opening minute of the second of action to account for the only goal of the game and lead The Rock past Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference co-leader Lock Haven on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Christy's goal off assists from Jeremy Deighton and Ed Mocarsky lifted The Rock (4-2-1 overall, 3-1-1 PSAC) to its fourth straight win and extended the Green and White's unbeaten streak to five games.

Lock Haven lost for only the second time in seven games this fall and suffered its first loss in five PSAC contests.

As the final score clearly shows, the teams battled on even terms throughout the 90 minutes of action.

Lock Haven outshot The Rock by a slim 19-17 margin and both teams fired seven shots on goal. The only difference: Lock Haven was unable to get a shot past SRU freshman goalie Greg Blum, who recorded seven saves -- several of which were in one-on-one situations -- to pitch his second shutout of the season.

The Rock seeks to continue its current string of success Saturday, when it visits PSAC rival West Chester for a 1 p.m. game.

The Rock entered Wednesday's game tied with California and Millersville for fourth place in the PSAC behind East Stroudsburg, Lock Haven and West Chester.

In other PSAC action of interest Wednesday, West Chester (5-2, 4-1 PSAC) blanked Kutztown, and East Stroudsburg (5-1, 4-1 PSAC) was at Millersville (3-1-1, 2-1-1 PSAC) in a 5 p.m. game. Click here to see the updated conference standings.
