Rock drops 3-1 decision to Clarion

Slippery Rock, pPa. - Jen Blasko recorded 19 kills and 28 digs Tuesday night in a losing effort as The Rock dropped a 3-1 decision to visiting Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action in Morrow Field House.

The loss snapped a four-match win streak for SRU, which saw its overall record dip to 8-4 and its PSAC-West mark go to 0-1.

Clarion won for the 11th time in as many matches this fall and is 1-0 in PSAC-West action.

The Golden Eagles won a 30-26 decision in Game 1 before SRU bounced back to take a 30-23 win in Game 2. Clarion then closed out the night with 30-23 and 30-24 victories.

Blasko was one of three Rock players to record double-figure kills totals; Louise Schultz had 13 and Anastasia Urbanik 11.

Five Rock players had 20 or more digs, led by Blasko's 28. Urbanik and Andrea Campbell each chipped in 24, while Anna Bixler had 21 and Brittany Spangler 20.

Bixler also had 44 assists. Schultz and Keira Peoples shared team-high honors in blocks with three each.

The Rock travels to Edinboro for a 1 p.m. PSAC-West match on Saturday, then visits defending PSAC and NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional champion Lock Haven for a 7 p.m. division match next Wednesday.

The next home match for the Green and White is Sept. 25 against California U, of Pa. (7 p.m. in Morrow Field House).
