Sept. 1, 2007

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Danielle Cooper scored two goals and Meghan McGrath had a pair of assists Saturday afternoon to lead The Rock to a 5-3 win over visiting Shippensburg in a battle of unbeaten Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The conference "crossover-game" win improved The Rock's season record to 3-0. Shippensburg is now 2-1.

Alison Hindley, Juliana Howell and Jaimi Wilson each scored a goal for The Rock, while Cara Kelleher had an assist.

Rock goalie Jen McCormick recorded five saves; The Rock outshot the Red Raiders by a 26-13 margin and enjoyed a 14-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Cooper's unassisted goal in the sixth minute of action gave The Rock a lead it would not relinquish. That was also the only tally scored in the first half of action.

Wilson scored off an assist from McGrath in the 53rd minute of action and Howell had an unassisted tally in the 58th minute to push The Rock lead to 3-0 before Shippensburg scored its first goal in the 60th minute.

The guests trimmed the difference to one goal in the 74th minute, but Cooper quelled the comeback when she converted an assist from Kelleher into what proved to be the game-winning goal one minute later.

A Shippensburg goal in the 83rd minute again trimmed The Rock lead to one goal before Hindley took a pass from McGrath and put the ball in the back of the net in the 89th minute.

The Rock returns to action on Monday, when it will visit Clarion for a 7 p.m. PSAC-Western Division contest.

SRU is then back home on DiSpirito Field for a 4 p.m. division duel Thursday with Edinboro.
