The Rock and Bellarmine battled for 100 minutes and one round of penalty shots Saturday night before the Knights finally gained the upper hand and won a 1-0 decision in non-conference action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The outcome was decided when Bellarmine outscored The Rock by a 3-2 margin in penalty shots.
Lara Winters and Ashley Stoner scored on penalty-shot attempts for The Rock.
Gina Filiano was denied on a pair of penalty-shot attempts, while Allie Hartman and Jennifer Venet were each turned away once.
Rock freshman goalie Lisa Belcastro made her first collegiate start Saturday and recorded five saves in regulation and overtime periods, then rejected three of six shots in penalty-shot competition.
Bellarmine outshot The Rock by a 14-12 margin.
The Rock is now 0-2, while Bellarmine evened its record at 1-1.
SRU returns to action on Wednesday, when it will visit defending NCAA Division II national champion Bloomsburg for a 4 p.m. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest.
