Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Poetic justice was eventually served Wednesday night on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Rock senior midfielder Meghan McGrath, after being frustrated by 13 misses on shots on goal in regulation time, scored on a pinball-like shot off a deflected shot attempt six minutes into the first overtime period to give The Rock a 1-0 win over visiting California U. of Pa.
The win was the second of the season for SRU and came in the opening game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division season.
California dropped to 0-2, 0-1.
The Rock unleashed a barrage of 40 shots on goal, 33 of which came in regulation time, but could not put the ball in the back of the net until its seventh overtime shot attempt.
Rock junior goalie Sarah Lacy, meanwhile, was called upon to make only three saves in her first collegiate start and pitched a shutout.
The Rock returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday, when it will host PSAC "crossover" rival Shippensburg in a battle of 2-0 squads on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompsonn Stadium.
