Courtney Hoover scored a goal and had two assists and Meghan McGrath added a goal and an assist Sunday afternoon to lead The Rock to a season-opening, 4-2 win over visiting East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Juliana Howell and Melisa Sharek each added a goal, while Alison Hindley picked up an assist.
Rock goalie Lauren McManus recorded six saves in a complete-game effort as SRU outshot its guest by an 18-12 margin. The Rock enjoyed a 12-8 advantage in shots on goal.
Sharek converted a pass from Hoover into the game's first goal in the 10th minute of action before Hoover took a pass from McGrath and put it in the back of the net in the 33rd minute.
Howell's goal off an assist from Hoover three minutes later gave SRU a 3-0 lead, which it carried into the intermission.
McGrath, off an assist from Hindley in the 68th minute, sandwiched a goal between two East Stroudsburg tallies to account for the final Rock point.
The Rock opens PSAC-Western Division action at 6 p.m. Wednesday with a home game against California U. of Pa. on DiSpirito Field.
