Rock falls by 2-0 count in opener vs. defending champs

Oakdale, N.Y. - The Rock opened its 2007 season Thursday afternoon with a 2-0 loss at NCAA Division II national champion Dowling College on Long Island.

Freshman goalie Greg Blum recorded seven saves in his first collegiate start.

Offensively, The Rock managed only two shots on goal.

SRU now turns its attention to Sunday's noon home opener vs. defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion East Stroudsburg.

Sunday's game was originally scheduled to be played on the natural-grass surface of James W. Egli Soccer Field, but will instead will be played on the artificial turf of Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The game vs. East Stroudsburg is the first of four straight home games the Green and White will play before going back on the road.
