Rock advances to semifinals in Sunday's PSAC Individual Tennis Championships

Shippensburg, Pa. - The Rock's No. 1 doubles team of Kayla Blackburn, and her younger sister Samantha Blackburn, received a number one seed, and a first-round bye heading into Saturday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championships hosted by Shippensburg University.

The Blackburn sisters made short work of division rival Indiana University of Pennsylvania, beating the team of Andrinia Nunic and Caitlin Heston, 8-0 in the quarterfinals on Saturday. The win assures The Rock a spot in Sunday's semifinal, as they will face the fourth seeded team, Kutztown University's, Rhoini Das and Barbara Joerns.

In Singles action, the number three seeded Kayla Blackburn received a first round bye. In the second round she would meet a familiar opponent as she faced-off against her teammate Laura Handy. In the first round Handy defeated Millersville's, Jenny Habecker in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to move into the second round. In the second round match, Blackburn would win the first set 6-3. Handy came back and won the second set 7-6, as Blackburn would take the tiebreaker and match, winning 7-4.

The win over Handy placed Blackburn in the quarterfinals against fifth seeded Adrinia Nunic of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Blackburn would Defeat Nunic, 6-2, 6-2, assuring her a spot in Sunday's semifinal, where she will take on second seeded Helena VanEysendeyk, of California University of Pennsylvania.

The Rock's Samantha Blackburn also competed in Saturday's singles action. In the first round, S. Blackburn defeated Clarion's, Lisa Baumgartner, 6-2,-4. In the second round S. Blackburn defeated Bloomsburg's, Tracy Nissenbaum, 6-1, 6-2 advancing her to the quarterfinal round. The number two seeded, Helen VanEysendeyk of California of Pa. would end S. Blackburn's run, as she defeated her, 6-1, 6-0.

The Rock will put two teams in Sunday's semifinal Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championship. The team of Kayla Blackburn, and her younger sister Samantha Blackburn, will take on Kutztown's Rhoini Das and Barbara Joerns in doubles action.

The third seeded, Kayla Blackburn, will face-off against the number two seeded, Helen VanEysendeyk, of California of Pa., in Sunday's semifinal singles action.
