Rock rings up 15th win in season finale, beats Lock Haven 1-0

Oct. 24, 2007

Final Stats

Lock Haven, Pa. - Meghan McGrath buried a rebound shot in the back of the net in the 36th minute of action Wednesday afternoon to give the 14th-ranked Rock a 1-0 win over hosting Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

With the win in the regular-season finale, this year's Green and White gang equalled the school record for single-season wins set by the 2003 squad (15-3-2).

The goal was McGrath's team-best 10th of the season and should help solidify the three-time first-team All-PSAC-West performer's bid for division "Player of the Year" honors.

Rock goalie Lauren McManus recorded two saves as SRU outshot the hosts by a 14-10 margin.

The Rock is now idle until Nov. 2, when it will host either Edinboro or Indiana (Pa.) in a PSAC playoff semifinal game at 4 p.m. on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

Edinboro, the No. 2 finisher in the PSAC-West standings, will host third-place IUP in a quarterfinal game Tuesday. The winner of that game will meet The Rock, the PSAC-West champion, in a semifinal game.

The winner of the Nov. 2 semifinal in Slippery Rock advances to the conference's title game Nov. 4 at the site of the winner of the Eastern Division semifinal.

West Chester clinched the PSAC-East title with a 2-0 win Wednesday over East Stroudsburg and will host the other semifinal Nov. 2 against the winner of the quarterfinal game between ESU and Bloomsburg.

Notes:

  • The Rock will make its fourth straight appearance in PSAC semifinal action, the best string of success in the conference;

  • The Rock learned prior to the game that it was ranked 14th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division II national poll and second in both the NCAA and regional polls.
