Rock falls by 62-48 decision to Concord

Fairmont, W. Va. - Concord University rode a perfect 15-for-15 effort at the foul line to a 62-48 victory Wednesday afternoon over The Rock in the second and final day of the Lady Falcon New Year's Classic hosted by Fairmont State University.

The loss, which came less than 48 hours after SRU had downed Fairmont State by a 52-44 score, gives The Rock a 4-7 record this winter.

The Rock returns to action on Sunday, when it will be at Cheyney University in suburban Philadelphia for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" game. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. The game can be heard live via www.redzonemedia.com.

SRU returns home next Wednesday, Jan. 10, to host Lock Haven in the opening game of the PSAC-Western Division schedule. Game time in Morrow Field House is set for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by WISR-AM 680 of Butler and simulcast on the Internet.

The Rock then goes back on the road for three straight games (Jan. 13 at Bloomsburg, Jan. 14 at Mansfield and Jan. 17 at Edinboro before hosting division rival Indiana U. of Pa. on Jan. 24 (6 p.m.).

The Rock trailed by only one point, 24-23, at intermission of Wednesday's game before Concord (7-2) scored nine unanswered points midway through the second half to turn a 35-33 deficit into a 42-35 advantage. The Mountain Lions were never headed as the lead eventually gew to as many as 18 points (60-42 in the final minutes).

The Rock, which only hit on 19 of 50 field goal attempts, was led by Amanda Nero's nine points. KellyAnn Staudinger added eight points for SRU.
