Ben Hauber scored the only goal of the game Thursday night to lift The Rock past visiting California U. of Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The win moved SRU, the defending conference champion, back to the top of the PSAC standings. The Rock has 12 points in the conference standings based on the four conference wins, each of which earns SRU three points in the standings. East Stroudsburg is in second place with 10 points and a 3-0-1 conference record.
Hauber's second goal of the season came off an assist from classmate Jeremy Deighton in the 66th minute of action.
The assist was Deighton's second of the season.
Defensively, the star of the game for The Rock was once again freshman goalie Brandon McQuillen, who recorded nine saves en route to his fourth shutout of the season.
McQuillen now owns a sparking 0.40 goals against average and a .931 save percentage.
Final statistics showed that California outshot The Rock by a 24-11 margin.
The Rock faces a stiff challenge in its next contest, as nationally ranked Dowling invades James W. Egli Soccer Field for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday.
Dowling, the regional runner-up in 2005, currently owns a 3-0 record and is ranked second in the Northeast Region and seventh nationally by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
SRU is ranked fifth in the region by the NSCAA.
