Final Stats
Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Janice Feduke scored her second goal of the season with 5:57 left to play Friday night to account for The Rock's only tally of the game in a 4-1 loss to visiting Bellarmine University of Kentucky in non-conference action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Feduke's goal off an assist from Michelle Mumma was only the third scored by a Rock player this season and snapped a seven-game scoreless streak for the Green and White (1-7).
The Rock had not scored a goal since Feduke put a shot in the back of the net with 5:35 left to play in the season-opening 3-0 win at St. Vincent on September 2.
It must be pointed out, though, that The Rock has played six nationally ranked foes since it recorded the win over St. Vincent.
The Rock has faced top-ranked Bloomsburg, second-ranked Shippensburg, No. 5 East Stroudsburg, No. 6 Indiana (Pa.), No. 8 Kutztown and No. 9 Mansfield.
With Friday's win, Bellarmine improved its record to 4-5. Like The rock, the Knights have faced a formidable schedule this fall. Three of Bellarmine's losses have come by 2-1 margins against top-10 teams Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg and Indiana (Pa.).
Rock starting goalie Tara Bailey allowed all four Bellarmine goals Friday, but recorded nine saves in 50-plus minutes of action. Ashley Winkelstecht chalked up three saves in the final 14-plus minutes.
Bellarmine outshot SRU by a 28-15 margin as Knights goalie Kristina Thomas was called upon to make only four saves.
The Rock (0-6 PSAC) will look to snap a seven-game losing streak and move out of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cellar on Saturday when it hosts Millersville (1-8, 0-6) in an 11 a.m. game on DiSpirito Field.
SRU is then idle for one week before hosting conference rival Kutztown at 11 a.m. on Oct. 7.
