Indiana's Ray Schreiner scored on a rebound off the crossbar with 13:12 remaining in the game Wednesday afternoon to give the hosting Indians a 1-0 win over The Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.
With the win, Indiana (8-3, 5-1 PSAC West) avenged a 2-1 loss to The rock on Aug. 30 moved into a tie with SRU (7-3-1, 5-2) for the top spot in the PSAC-West standings.
Both teams entered the game ranked in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll; The Rock came in at No. 15 in the nation and Indiana at No. 23.
SRU and Indiana began the day ranked second and third, respectively, in the NSCAA Northeast Regional poll.
Goalkeepers Becky Dillard of Indiana and The Rock's Jen McCormick kept the game tied most of the way, with both making several solid saves. Dillard finished the game with eight saves and McCormick had 10.
Indiana finally broke through when Sarah Romasco's blast beat McCormick but hit hard off the crossbar. Schreiner gathered in the loose ball and put it in the net uncontested.
Schreiner had an opportunity to score an insurance goal with just under two minutes remaining, but her one-on-one chance was denied by McCormick.
Slippery Rock held a 19-17 advantage in shots.
The Rock seeks to snap a three-game winless streak on Saturday, when it will travel to Shippensburg for a PSAC "crossover" contest. That will be the second of a four-game road trip for the Green and White, who return home on Oct. 11 to host Clarion at 4 p.m. on James W. Egli Soccer Field.
