Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Jeremy Deighton scored the lone goal of the game Friday afternoon to lift The Rock past visiting Bloomsburg, 1-0, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on James W. Egli Soccer Field.

On the strength of Deighton's goal, which came off an assist from Steve Perri in the 57th minute of action, The Rock snapped a two-game losing skid.

More importantly, the win kept SRU (6-4 overall) in the thick of the PSAC championship chase.

SRU's 6-2 mark in PSAC play earns it 18 points in the conference standings -- three points are awarded for each conference-game win, one point for a PSAC-game tie -- and puts The Rock in third place behind West Chester (21 points) and East Stroudsburg (20).

The Rock's foe in a 4 p.m. game on Sunday, Lock Haven (6-3, 5-3) is in fourth place with 15 points.

Rock freshman goalie Brando McQuillen recorded eight saves on Friday en route to recording his XXth shutout of the season.

SRU outshot Bloomsburg (1-8, 1-7) by a 16-13 margin, but was on the low end of an 8-7 comparison in shots on goal.

SRU had eight corner kicks compared to only one for Bloomsburg.

Following Sunday's 4 p.m. meeting with Lock Haven on Egli Field, The Rock will embark on a four-game road trip.
