Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Danielle Cooper's goal in the 53rd minute of action accounted for the winning goal Wednesday afternoon as The Rock nipped visiting Indiana U. of Pa., 2-1, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Cooper collected a loose ball front of the goal and deposited it in the back of the net to ultimately give the defending PSAC champions sole possession of first place in the PSAC-West.
SRU is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in PSAC-West action and now owns a nine-game unbeaten streak that includes the final six games of the 2005 campaign.
Indiana dropped to 1-1 overall, 0-1 in PSAC-West action.
Martina Hall was credited with an assist on Cooper's decisive goal; Hall's deflected shot attempt set up Cooper's tally.
Hall also assisted on The Rock's first goal of the game, scored by all-region midfielder Meghan McGrath in the 39th minute of action.
McGrath's goal, the 22nd of her three-year collegiate career, evened the score at 1-1 just over 12 minutes after Indiana had taken a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by Shana Speese.
Defensively, freshman goalie Lauren McManus was again the star that shone the brightest. After yielding the first goal scored against her this season, McManus recorded a season-high eight saves Wednesday.
Indiana outshot The Rock by a 22-9 margin and recorded a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Rock returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday, when it will host regional rival Bridgeport in a non-conference game on James W. Egli Soccer Field.
Wednesday's game vs. Indiana was originally scheduled to be played on Egli Field as well, but was moved to the artificial turf at Thompson Stadium when recent rain showers made the grass-covered surface on Egli Field unplayable.
