Hamley's goal lifts Rock past Lock Haven

Aug. 27, 2006

Final Stats

Lock Haven, Pa. - Jeff Hamley's unassisted goal in the 47th minute of action proved to be the only goal of the game, but it was enough to lift The Rock past Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference preseason favorite Lock Haven on the Bald Eagle's home turf.

The win was the second in as many outings this fall for Matt Thompson's squad and was the second recorded via a shutout.

SRU opened its season with a 2-0 win over visiting Kutztown last Thursday on James W. Egli Soccer Field.

The wins over Kutztown and Lock Haven put SRU in sole possession of first place in the PSAC standings with six points (three points for each conference-game win, one point for a tie).

As was the case in the win over Kutztown, first-year Rock goalie Brandon McQuillen was virtually unchallenged Sunday. He recorded five saves in the first half of action, but was not credited with any saves in the final 45 minutes.

McQuillen was called upon to record only three saves in the win over Kutztown.

The Rock will return to action on Wednesday, when it will host West Chester in the third of five straight PSAC contests SRU will play to open the 2006 season.

The Rock will play eight of its first 11 games at home this fall before closing out the season with six road games in eight outings.

The Rock was 7-2-1 in home contests a year ago en route to its first PSAC chammpionship since 1974. The Rock also earned its first-ever berth in NCAA regional competition last fall.
