Ashley Michaux won her No. 2 singles match and teamed with Kayla Blackburn to win at No. 1 doubles and led The Rock to a 6-3 win over hosting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Shippensburg.
The win was the fifth straight and ninth in the last 10 matches for The Rock (14-6), but more importantly it assured SRU of a berth in the PSAC playoffs.
The Rock will enter postseason play as the No. 2 seed from the Western Division. The four-team conference tournament will be held April 21-22 in Shippensburg.
Michaux won her singles match by 6-2, 6-1 scores after she and Blackburn had scored an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match.
SRU's No. 3 doubles team of Lara Rizzi and Cristina Rhodes recorded an 8-4 victory to give SRU a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.
In singles action, Rizzi won a three-set (2-6, 6-1, 6-1) decision at No. 4, Sarah Karagianis won a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 5 and Erika McKenna reigned by 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 scores at No. 6.
The Rock is idle until it opens PSAC tournament play on April 21.
