Hilton Head Island, S.C. - Kayla Blackburn continued to excel in her new role as The Rock's top player Sunday, but again could not lead her team to victory.

Blackburn had a hand in two of The Rock's points Sunday in a 6-3 loss to North Carolina Pembroke in second-day action of SRU's spring-break trip to South Carolina.

Normally SRU's No. 2 singles player, Blackburn won the No. 1 singles match Sunday by a 6-3, 6-1 score. She also teammed with Lara Rizzi to win an 8-5 decision in the No. 1 doubles match.

Blackburn's win in the No. 1 singles match was her second in as many days in the spotlight match.

She stepped into the featured No. 1 singles spot in the absence of Ashley Michaux, who did not make the trip.

Likewise, Rizzi stepped up from her normal No. 2 doubles role to team with Blackburn at No. 1.

Cristina Rhodes recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 6 singles match to account for the other Rock point Sunday.

Sunday's loss was the second in as many days for The Rock (5-3).

The Rock plays two matches on Monday: 8 a.m. against Limestone College and 4 p.m. against Merrimack.
