Rock falls by 52-39 margin to California in PSAC quarterfinals

California, Pa. - The curtain rung down on The Rock's 2005-06 season Tuesday night as SRU dropped a 52-39 decision at California U. of Pa. in quarterfinal action of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs.

The Rock, which made its first playoff appearance since the 2001-02 season, finished the season with a 13-15 record.

California, the PSAC-Western Division regular-season champion for the fifth successive season, will take a 24-4 record into Friday's semifinal action against Millersville.

The Rock, after leading for most of the first 16 minutes of action, failed to score a point for almost 11 minutes -- the final four minutes of the first half and the first seven minutes of the final half -- and allowed California to score 15 unanswered points to take command of the action.

California held a 21-20 edge at halftime.

KellyAnn Staudinger led The Rock scoring attack with nine points , while Amanda Chojnacki and Kristen Bonner added six points each.

Jessica Schake had a team-high six rebounds for SRU.

Tuesday's game marked the end of the collegiate playing career for four Rock seniors: Bonner, Jess Caso, Amber McFeely and Cathy Lee Peffer.
