Mikolajczyk leads Rock past California (Pa.), 3-2

Oct. 7, 2006

Final Stats

California, Pa. - Kristin Mikolajczyk scored her first goal of the season and also handed out her first assist of the campaign Saturday afternoon to lead The Rock to a 3-2 win over hosting California U. of Pa.

The win was the second in as many games for SRU, which saw its season record improve to 9-4-1 and its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division mark move to 7-2.

Mikolajczyk assisted on Lauren Plouse's first goal of the season, a tally that came less than a minute into action and gave The Rock a quick 1-0 lead.

After the hosts (5-9, 3-6 PSAC) tied the score at 1-1, Mikolajczyk took a pass from Jaimi Wilson and deposited the ball in the back of the net in the 28th minute of action to put SRU on top by a 2-1 score.

The game-winning goal came off the foot of Shelly Regner, who converted an assist from Danielle Cooper into a score four minutes prior to the halftime intermission.

On the other end of the field, Lauren McManus -- who returned to action after missing five straight games with a knee injury -- faced only four shots on goal as SRU outshot the Vulcans by a 22-7 margin.

SRU returns to action on Wednesday, when it will host Clarion at 4 p.m. in the final game of the PSAC-West schedule.

The Rock will then play three straight non-conference games before opening defense of its 2005 PSAC championship with a conference quarterfinal game on Oct. 24.
