Final Stats
Kutztown, Pa. -
The Rock strengthened its hold on a second successive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff berth when it recorded a 3-0 win over hosting Kutztown in conference action Tuesday afternoon.
The win was SRU's second straight and eighth in 14 games this fall (8-4 PSAC) and gives The Rock 24 points in the PSAC standings that award three points for a conference win and one point for a PSAC-game tie.
East Stroudsburg (10-1-3, 9-1-2 PSAC) leads the PSAC standings with 29 points, followed by both Lock Haven (10-4, 9-3 PSAC) and West Chester (11-3, 9-2 PSAC) with 27 points and SRU. California (6-5-3, 5-3-3) is in fifth place with 18 points.
The Rock -- the reigning PSAC playoff champions -- can take a large step towards locking up another playoff berth on Saturday when it visits California for a 1 p.m. game.
Chris Byers put SRU in that position when he scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 18th minute of action Tuesday off an assist from Chris Graham.
Nick Christy made it 2-0 when he took assists from David Flamer and Nathan Puskar and buried the ball in the back of the net in the 36th minute of play.
The final goal of the game came on a penalty-kick tally by Steve Perri in the final minute of the 45-minute first half.
Rock goalies Brandon McQuillen (one save in 70 minutes) and Brett Lelko (no saves in 20 minutes) had an easy day at the office, although final statistics showed both teams with eight total shots.
The Rock, after ending a four-game road trip Saturday in California, will host Millersville at 4 p.m. next Wednesday (Oct. 11).
