Box Score

Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock women's basketball team dropped a 62-45 decision to PSAC-Western Division rival California (Pa.) Wednesday evening at Morrow Field House.

The visiting Vulcans jumped out to an early five point two minutes into the game, but The Rock would come storming back. Back to back lay-ups by Amanda Chojnacki put The Rock up 11-9 with 12:16 left in the first half. That would be the only Rock lead of the game, as California took a 31-22 lead into halftime.

The second half was all Calfornia, with the Vulcans building as large as a 19 point lead. Two free throws by Jessica Schake would bring The Rock within 14, but that is the closest it would get the remainder of the game.

The Rock was plagued by poor shooting during the game, only connecting on 30.9% of its shots. California shot an even 50% for the game.

With the loss, The Rock drops to 6-8 overall and 0-1 in PSAC-West standings, while California improves its overall record to 10-3 and 1-0 in conference play.

The Rock's efforts were led by Jessica Schake, who scored a season-high 23 points and also grabbed a team best seven rebounds.

Point guard Amber McFeely added eight points and three assists for The Rock and Amanda Kaufman finished with six points and four boards.

The Rock will look to snap its two game losing skid this weekend when it travels to West Chester on Saturday for a PSAC "crossover" contest. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
