Mangiarelli leads Rock past Clarion, 4-1

Clarion, Pa. - Sarah Mangiarelli scored two goals Tuesday night to lead The Rock to a 4-1 win over hosting Clarion University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

The win was the third straight for The Rock and improved SRU's record to 5-2-2 overall and 3-0-2 in PSAC-West play.

Mangiarelli gave The Rock a 1-0 lead at the 20:15 mark of the first period when she scored an unassisted goal. She got her second goal at the 12:53 mark of the first stanza off an assist from Meghan McGrath.

The goals were the first of the season for Mangiarelli.

Clarion trimmed the margin to 2-1 with a goal at the 3:59 mark of the first half before The Rock scored two unanswered goals in the final period to ice the win.

Julie Kirwan had an assist on both second-half goals. Kirwan now has a team-high three assists this fall.

Danielle Cooper and Megan Swoger converted the assists into goals.

Cooper's goal was her third of the season and moved her into the team lead in points (8) and into a tie with Mallory Neubert for the team lead in goals.

Swoger's goal was her first of the season.

Jen McCormick recorded seven saves for The Rock, which outshot Clarion by an 11-8 margin.

Tuesday's game was the first of four straight road contests for The Rock, which travels to Bloomsburg for a 1 p.m. PSAC "crossover" game on Sunday.

SRU's next home game is Oct. 11 against defending PSAC champion Indiana U. of Pa. Game time on James W. Egli Soccer Field is set for 4 p.m.
