Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Danielle Cooper scored two goals Saturday afternoon and Julie Kirwan added a goal and an assist as The Rock dumped visiting Millersville, 5-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" game on James W. Egli Soccer Field.
The winning effort was a continuation of the offensive prowess The Rock showed three days earlier in a 3-0 win at PSAC-West rival California U. of Pa.
Prior to scoring eight goals in its last two outings, The Rock had put only four goals on the scoreboard.
Saturday's win improved The Rock's record to 4-2-2 overall as it prepares for a 7 p.m. PSAC-West game Tuesday at Clarion.
Cooper scored The Rock's first goal off an assist from Kirwan in the 11th minute of action. She added her second goal of the day, an unassisted tally, in the 55th minute to push SRU's lead to 4-0.
Kirwan converted an assist from Meghan McGrath into SRU's third goal in the 51st minute of action.
Prior to that, Julie Lineman (goal) and Lauren Steele (assist) had teamed up for goal No. 3 in the 34th minute.
Martina Hall scored an unassisted goal in the 77th minute to answer Millersville's lone goal seven minutes earlier.
The Rock scored four times in 10 shots on goal in a 55-minute period against former teammate Karrine Riggins, who transferred closer to home after being SRU's starting netminder a year ago.
SRU outshot Millersville by a 27-6 margin.
Rock goalies Jen McCormick and Sarah Lacy each recorded two saves.
