Rock rallies but falls by 4-3 score at California

California, Pa. - The Rock rallied for an early 4-0 decision Wednesday afternoon to give hosting California U. of Pa. all it could handle, but came up one goal short and dropped a 4-3 decision in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

The loss dropped The Rock's overall record to 3-5-1 and its conference mark to 3-3-1.

SRU entered the game tied with West Chester for the PSAC lead with 10 points (three for a win, one for a tie). West Chester played at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday.

California, which improved its records to 4-4 and 3-3, jumped out to a 4-0 lead Wedensday after only 15 minutes had elapsed in the game and held a 4-2 halftime advantage.

Dave Keller scored The Rock's third goal (unassisted) and had the assist on SRU's second goal (scored by Ed Mocarsky).

Matt Furlan scored the first Rock goal off an assist from Nathan Puskar.

The Rock had opportunities to tie the score and possibly win the game in the latter moments of action, but could not put the ball in the net.

Rock goalie Pat Passewitz was credited with two saves in the first half and Chris Cook was credited with three second-half saves as California outshot The Rock by a 14-10 margin.

The Rock will look to snap a modest two-game losing streak on Saturday when it hosts PSAC rival Millersville in a 3 p.m. game on James W. Egli Soccer Field.

SRU is also home on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when it will host non-conference rival Pitt-Johnstown at 7 p.m. on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
