March 6, 2005

Final Stats

Savannah, Ga. - Stacey Rhoades hit a game-winning two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to lead The Rock to its first win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Bluefield State Sunday afternoon.

The Rock's win over Bluefield State came after SRU lost its season opener to Georgia Southwestern.

Brittany Hahn (1-0) led The Rock on the rubber, pitching a complete game while scattering four hits and surrendering just one unearned run and striking out five to earn the win.

Niki Banner and Kelly Wolfe contributed two hits to The Rock's offensive effort.

SRU loaded the bases in the top of the first, but couldn't bring anyone across the plate in its best opportunity to score prior to extra innings.

Wolfe led off the SRU fifth with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball with no one out, but a fly out and two ground outs couldn't get The Rock on the board.

Bluefield State's best scoring opportunities came in the bottom of the first and fifth innings when it had two runners on in each inning.

Niki Banner plated The Rock's first run of the game when she drove in Kaoni Rhodes with an RBI single in the eighth.

Rhodes scored on Stacey Rhoades' homer.

The Rock outhit Bluefield State by an 8-4 margin.

SRU will take on Quincy at 1 p.m. and Bluefield State at 3 p.m. Monday.
