Slippery Rock, Pa. -
The Rock rode a strong second-half effort to a 63-54 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division victory Wednesday night over visiting Edinboro that snapped a four-game losing skid.
SRU, after scoring only 18 points in the first half, poured in 45 points in the final 20 minutes to improve its overall record to 8-15 and its PSAC-West mark to 2-6.
Edinboro, the No. 7 team in the latest NCAA Division II East Regional poll, fell to 16-6 overall, 3-4 in conference action.
Wednesday's win avenged a 63-50 setback The Rock sustained on Jan. 19 in Edinboro.
The star of the show Wednesday night was Amanda Chojnacki, who scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds -- both of which were career-high totals.
A major portion of Chojnacki's points came from the foul line as she was 11 of 12 from the charity stripe.
Kristen Bonner tied Chojnacki for team-high scoring honors with 15 points, while Stacey Green chipped in nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds and Dana Stewart grabbed nine rebounds.
Behind the 1-2 rebounding punch of Green and Chojnacki, The Rock outrebounded Edinboro by a whopping 54-25 margin.
SRU also nailed 20 of 25 free-throw opportunities in the final half.
The Rock trailed by four points, 22-18, at halftime before it outscored the guests by a 22-4 margin in the first 10 minutes of the final half to take a 14-point, 40-26, advantage.
Edinboro put together an 18-9 run to trim the margin to five points, 49-44, with three minutes left to play before The Rock regained control of the situation and iced the win.
SRU travels to PSAC-West rival Lock Haven for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday and then visits Clarion for a 6 p.m. game next Wednesday before closing out its home schedule with a 1 p.m. game on Feb. 19 against Shippensburg.
