Rock gives No. 11 California, Pa. all it can handle in 51-46 loss

Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock held the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference's third-best scoring offense (68.5 points per game) to 51 points but came up short in a 51-46 loss to the defending national champion and 11th-ranked California University of Pa. Vulcans at Morrow Field House Monday night.

Stacey Green led The Rock effort with a 12-point, nine-rebound performance while Amber McFeely was an offensive catalyst by handing out a game-high nine assists and scoring seven points.

Kristen Bonner (nine points, five rebounds), Amanda Chojnacki (eight points, two rebounds) and KellyAnn Staudinger (six points, four rebounds) each provided significant minutes.

SRU drops to 7-15 overall and 1-6 in PSAC-Western Division play. California, Pa. improves to 18-4, 6-1.

The Rock jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead and surged ahead by a 25-15 margin with 7:35 to go before taking a 29-24 lead to the locker room at halftime.

California responded right out of the gate with an 8-0 run of its own to open the second session. It would lead by as many as seven points (43-36) with 8:04 left

Chojnacki's layup with 2:24 left cut the deficit to one, but California, Pa. finished with four unanswered points to seal the victory.

California, Pa. was led by reigning PSAC "Athlete of the Year" Sara McKinney, who scored a game-high 17 points while breaking the school record for all-time points scored with 1,896.

The Rock will look to get back in the win column in a PSAC-W matchup Wednesday versus Edinboro at 6 p.m. in Morrow Field House.
