Feb. 7, 2005

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Mason Glick scored 17 points and handed out seven assists Monday night to lead The Rock to a 60-56 win over visiting California U. of Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

Glick was one of four players who scored 10 or more points for The Rock, which with the win remained in the thick of the chase for a conference playoff berth.

The Rock is now 5-17 overall and 3-4 in PSAC-West action.

The Rock is currently tied for fifth place in the division. The top four teams earn berths in the conference playoffs.

Edinboro (18-3 overall) leads the PSAC-West with a 5-1 record, followed by Clarion (15-6) at 5-2 and Indiana U. of Pa. (18-5) and Shippensburg (14-8) each at 4-3.

California fell to 14-7, 3-4 with its loss Monday night, while Lock Haven (2-19, 0-7) is in the division cellar.

The Rock will have a short time to enjoy Monday night's win as Edinboro -- which is ranked first in the latest NCAA Division II East Regional poll and 10th in the NABC national poll -- invades Morrow Field House for an 8 p.m. game on Wednesday.

SRU travels to Lock Haven on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.

Bill Johnson and Brandon Thompson each scored 12 points Monday night for The Rock, while Jason Bratten had 11. Johnson and Glenn Reepmeyer shared team-high rebounding honors with six each.

The double-digit scoring effort was the fourth in as many games for Thompson, who has established himself as a super sub for third-year head coach John Marhefka.

The Rock trailed by two points, 29-27, at halftime but never trailed in the final 20 minutes after Bratten's three-point shot at 19:45 put the hosts on top, 30-29.

SRU enjoyed an eight-point, 47-39, lead with 10:30 left in the game and was on top by nine, 51-42, with 6:45 left before California trimmed the margin to three points (55-52) with 1:17 left.

That three-point deficit was as close as the Vulcans would come, though.

The Rock shot an even 50 percent (20 of 40) from the field in the game and hit 65 percent (11 of 17) of its shots in the second half.
