The Rock women's basketball team surged to a 11 point first half lead, but could not stave off visiting Bloomsburg in PSAC "crossover" action, falling by a 57-50 score.
The Rock scored first on a layup by Jessica Schake a little over one minute into the game. A jumper by Kristin Bonner ignited a ten point Rock run in which she also added two three-pointers.
However, the visiting Huskies chipped away at the lead, with The Rock holding onto a 28-25 advantage at halftime.
After a three-point shot by Amber McFeely to begin the second half, Bloomsburg took over, building as big as a 13 point lead. The Rock would close the gap to three on a McFeely free throw with 29 seconds remaining, but could get no closer as the Huskies pulled off the win.
Leading the way for The Rock was Kristen Bonner, who scored 11 points. Amanda Chojnacki was the only other Rock player scoring in double digits, with 10 points.
Earning team-high rebounding honors for The Rock was Angela Greaser, who grabbed seven boards. Schake pulled down six boards, while Chojnacki hauled in five boards.
With the loss, The Rock falls to 5-5 on the season, while Bloomsburg improves to 3-5.
The Rock will return to action after the holidays in a January 3 matchup with the District of Columbia at Morrow Field House. Tip-off is slated for 6:00. Fans will be admitted free of charge for the second of two fan appreciation nights sponsored by Slippery Rock.
