McGrath leads Rock past Bloomsburg, 3-2

Bloomsburg, Pa - Meghan McGrath scored two goals and assisted on The Rock's third tally Sunday afternoon to lead SRU to a 3-2 win over hosting Bloomsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action.

The win was SRU's fourth straight and improved The Rock's overall record to 6-2-2.

Bloomsburg is now 4-4-4.

Danielle Cooper assisted on McGrath's first goal (33:34), while McGrath's second score -- the eventual game-winner -- was unassisted at the 73:24 mark.

Sarah Mangiarelli converted an assist from McGrath into SRU's second goal at the 36:36 mark.

Rock goalie Jen McCormick was credited with five saves as The Rock outshot Bloomsburg by an 8-7 edge.

Bloomsburg scored the first goal of the game in the 31st minute of action, but the lead held up less than three minutes before McGrath tied the count at 1-1.

The Huskies returned the favor and tied the game at 2-2 with a goal seven-plus-change minutes into the second half of action.

SRU will travel to Mercyhurst for a non-conference game on Wednesday before closing out a four-game road trip on Saturday at PSAC-West rival Lock Haven.

The next Rock home game will be Oct. 11 against defending PSAC champion Indiana U. of Pa. (4 p.m.) on James W. Egli Soccer Field.

The Rock (3-0-2 in division play) is currently in second place behind Indiana (9-1-1 overall, 5-0-1 PSAC-West) in the PSAC-West standings.
