East Stroudsburg, Pa. -
Gary Saunders scored the game's only goal, assisted by Justin Hollm, three minutes into overtime Sunday afternoon to give The Rock a 1-0 win at East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
The win over the previous conference co-leader propelled SRU to the top of the conference standings.
The Rock (6-5-1 overall) has 16 points on the strength of a 5-3-1 conference record (three points for a win, one point for a tie) to lead both East Stroudsburg (7-4-1 overall, 5-4 PSAC) and California (6-5, 5-4), both of which have 15 points.
The top four teams in the standings at the end of the regular season will advance to the conference playoffs, which start Nov. 2.
Sunday's win was The Rock's third straight -- all via shutouts -- and avenged a 4-0 loss to the Warriors on Sept. 3 in Slippery Rock.
Chris Cook recorded three saves en route to his third straight shutout and fourth of the season. He now owns a sparkling 0.85 goals against average in his first season as SRU's starting netminder.
The Rock outshot ESU by a 6-5 margin.
SRU returns to action on Wednesday, when it will host Bloomsburg (5-6, 4-5) in a 3 p.m. PSAC contest on James W. Egli Soccer Field.
The Rock nipped the Huskies, 2-1, in Bloomsburg on Aug. 31.
