Rock closes regular-season with 4-1 win over East Stroudsburg

Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock closed out its 2004 regular-season schedule on a winning note Saturday as it downed visiting East Stroudsburg by a 4-1 margin in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference interdivisional contest on James W. Egli Field.

The win gave The Rock a 13-2-2 overall record. ESU fell to 8-11-1.

The Rock's next game will be Friday, Nov. 5, at 1 p.m. when SRU will host either Lock Haven or Indiana, Pa., in a PSAC playoff semifinal game on Egli Field.

The Rock, which won a second successive regular-season championship this fall, is the defending conference playoff champion.

East Stroudsburg scored the first goal Saturday before The Rock chalked up four straight goals.

Jaimi Wilson tied the score at 1-1 with an unassisted goal at the 31:09 mark of the first half.

Emma Wright, one of four Rock seniors honored before the game, scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 60:28 mark in the second half.

Eight minutes later, Julie Kirwan made it 3-1. Sarah Mangiarelli recorded the final goal at the 80:03 mark.

The Rock outshot ESU by a 26-8 margin. Rock goalie Karrine Riggins was called upon to make only two saves.
