Rock keeps playoff hopes alive with 3-2 double-overtime win over East Stroudsburg

Oct. 30, 2004

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Nick Christy's goal on a pass from Justin Riggle in the sixth minute of double-overtime led The Rock (11-5-2 overall, 4-3 PSAC) over East Stroudsburg (8-5-2 overall, 3-2-3 PSAC) 3-2 on James W. Egli Field Saturday afternoon.

The Rock's hopes of clinching a spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) are kept alive with the win. SRU needs a West Chester loss at Bloomsburg Sunday to clinch its first berth since 1985.

The Rock's 11th win of the season is the most any Rock team has amassed since 1982 when The Rock finished 11-3-1 under head coach Jim Egli.

The Rock jumped on the board in the first minute on a goal by Gary Saunders.

After East Stroudsburg scored its second goal in the 58th minute, Dave Keller scored his sixth goal of the season, a header off a direct kick from Nathan Puskar.

Christy's fourth goal of the season was the clincher.

Goalkeeper Pat Passewitz stopped five shots to earn the victory.

The Rock and East Stroudsburg each attempted 20 shots.

Should The Rock clinch a PSAC playoff berth as a No. 4 seed, it will play the No. 1 seed California, Pa. at California. If both West Chester and Lock Haven lose their upcoming games, The Rock will earn a No. 3 seed. In that case, it will travel to the No. 2 seed Millersville in the opening round of the tournament. Opening round games will be played Nov. 3 at a time to be announced.

The Rock lost to California (11-5-2 overall, 6-1-1 PSAC before Saturday) 3-1 and tied Millersville (9-5-4 overall, 5-1-1 PSAC before Saturday) 1-1 during the 2004 regular season.
