Beaver Falls, Pa. -
Justin Riggle converted an assist from Jeff Hamley into what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 3-2 Rock win Wednesday night over hosting non-conference rival Geneva (7-9-1).
The win improved SRU's record to 10-5-2, which represents the most wins by a Rock men's soccer team since the 1997 squad coached by current Rock women's coach Noreen Herlihy had a 10-8 record.
The Rock, coached by former SRU standout Matt Thompson, seeks its 11th win, and could earn a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff berth, with a victory Saturday over East Stroudsburg in the regular-season finale on James W. Egli Field.
SRU has not been in the PSAC playoffs since 1985, when The Rock lost to East Stroudsburg in a one-game playoff to determine the conference champion.
Gary Saunders scored on a penalty kick in the 35th minute before Joe Ross scored on assists from Riggle and Nick Christy in the 43rd minute to give SRU a 2-0 lead over Geneva.
Geneva scored a pair of goals in the first 30 minutes of the second half to tie the score at 2-2 and set the stage for Riggle's game-winning goal on a header with just less than nine minutes left to play.
