Josh Kniess's 56-yard punt return at the 13:09 mark in the third quarter wasn't enough to hold off Millersville University, which won 17-14 on a last-minute field goal Saturday afternoon.
The Rock's third straight defeat drops its record to 3-5 overall.
Kniess accounted for 139 all-purpose yards. He carried 17 times for 68 yards and returned three punts for 71 yards. He also scored the first Rock touchdown on a six-yard dash in the first quarter.
Quarterback Nate Crookshank completed 12 of 19 passes for 156 yards and zero interceptions. H-back Brandon Richardson posted 112 yards receiving on nine catches.
Millersville outgained The Rock offensively by a 320-291 margin.
Linebacker Greg Baker led The Rock defense for the second consecutive game with a career-high 12 tackles.
Edinboro will visit The Rock next Saturday for SRU's homecoming game at 2 p.m.
