Rock rolls past Lock Haven, 24-13

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Senior running back Brandon Markus rushed for 107 yards and sophomore running back Josh Kniess scored two touchdowns Saturday afternoon to lead hosting Slippery Rock University to a 24-13 win over Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division football action.

With the win, The Rock improved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in PSAC-West action. Lock Haven fell to 3-6, 1-3.

Markus' total keyed a 159-yard rushing effort for The Rock, which finished with 229 yards in total offense.

Junior wide receiver Brandon Richardson caught a 25-yard pass from senior quarterback Chad DeVore for The Rock's first touchdown to put SRU up, 10-7, at halftime.

Kniess scored on a one-yard rushing attempt and a 42-yard punt return in the fourth quarter to extend the hosts' lead to 24-7 with 8:12 left in the game.

Troy Wile Jr. scored on a six-yard run with 12:30 left in the second quarter to open the day's scoring, then hit Rafael Smith for a 12-yard touchdown with 1:35 left in the game to finalize the scoring.

The Rock defense sacked Wiles seven times for minus-39 yards.

Senior defensive end Louis Jamison led the way for The Rock defense as he recorded a school-record-tying three sacks, five tackles for loss for minus-19 yards, forced two fumbles, recovered one fumble and had one pass broken up.

Senior defensive tackle Matt Mager had two sacks, one pass broken up and returned an interception 34 yards to set up Kniess' second TD run.

Rock kicking specialist John Katsaouni tied the school's single-season record when booted his 13th field goal of the season, a 42-yarder with 9:41 left in the first half. He shares that record with Morgan Anderson (1998).

The Rock travels to Indiana U. of Pa. for a 1:30 p.m. PSAC-West contest next Saturday, while Lock Haven travels to Clarion for a PSAC-West contest.
