Defending national and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion Bloomsburg University set an NCAA Division II record with its 40th consecutive women's field hockey victory Monday when it beat hosting Slippery Rock University, 5-0, in PSAC action at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The all-time NCAA record for consecutive wins is held by Old Dominion, which won 66 straight games.
The Huskies are now 10-0 overall this fall and 8-0 in PSAC play.
The Rock fell to 1-9, 1-7.
Shelia Zilinski scored two goals for Bloomsburg, while Nicole Hartranft, Elyce Morring and Kelly Trevisan scored one each.
Shanna Fritz, Stephanie Beck and Julie Orner were credited with one assist each.
Rock freshman goalie Tara Bailey (Keene, NH/Keene HS) had a stellar game as she recorded 20 saves. Bloomsburg outshot The Rock by a 44-1 margin; Huskie goalie Jamie Hartman recorded a save on The Rock's only shot.
The Rock returns to action on Thursday when it travels to Millersville (0-8, 0-7) for a 4 p.m. PSAC contest. The Rock beat the Marauders, 3-1, in the teams' first meeting Sept. 6 in Slippery Rock.
