Meagan Shadeck wrapped up 15 years as an assistant coach for the track and field program at Slippery Rock University in 2021 before moving on to a career at the YMCA. She kept her connection to The Rock by joining the volleyball staff as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach.

Over 15 seasons on the track and field staff, Shadeck played a pivotal role in helping coach Slippery Rock to 11 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships.

Shadeck came to Slippery Rock in January of 2007 and helped to coach some of the top student-athletes on campus over a 15-year run.

Her tenure with The Rock track and field team concluded in 2021 with one of the finest seasons in program history for The Rock’s female throwers, led by Danielle Collier winning a national title in the javelin and representing Slippery Rock at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Jena Reinheimer was also named the 2021 Most Outstanding Field Athlete at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships and The Rock’s female throwers combined to score a total of 53 of the team’s 94.5 points in a runner-up finish in the team standings.

Over the course of 15 years, Shadeck coached 13 PSAC champions, 53 All-PSAC finishers, eight All-Americans, seven school record holders and helped to coach two national champion javelin throwers in David Reinhardt and Danielle Collier.

SRU records that fell during Shadeck’s tenure include the men’s outdoor discus (JJ Ollio) and hammer (David Reinhardt) records, the men’s indoor shot put (Anderson Novalin) and weight throw (Chris Warning) records, the women’s indoor weight throw (Brittany Christiansen) record and the women’s outdoor javelin (Danielle Collier) and hammer (Brittany Christiansen) records.

Shadeck’s impact at Slippery Rock over the last 15 years stretches well beyond the track and field program. As one of the only certified strength and conditioning coaches in the Athletics Department a number of years ago, she developed a strength and conditioning training program to teach coaches and athletic staff proper techniques and strength and conditioning practices. Her efforts in that area have benefited student-athletes and coaches from all teams at The Rock.

A former thrower herself, Shadeck came to Slippery Rock in 2007 after spending two years at her Alma Mater, the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, where she was a three-time NCAA provisional qualifier in the hammer throw. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Whitewater.

In the summer of 2013, Shadeck married former Slippery Rock hurdle standout and SRU alumnus Nathan Shadeck, who also serves as an assistant coach on the track and field team at The Rock. The couple have two daughters.
