The Slippery Rock University baseball team has played its home games at Jack Critchfield Park since April of 2002.
The Rock swept a grand-opening doubleheader from PSAC Conference-Western Division rival Edinboro on April, 22, 2002.
In the 12 and one-half year history of SRU’s “Critchfield of Dreams,” the Green and White have compiled a 157-85 (.649) record in home games.
The Rock accumulated a major portion of those wins during the 2003 season, a campaign in which “The Jack” served as the host site for the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Regional tournament. SRU won 26 of 30 games played on its home field that season and parlayed its home-field advantage into its fourth trip to the Division II College World Series.
In 2007, “The Jack” served as the site of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament. SRU finished third in that competition.
A few months later, Critchfield Park became the home of the Slippery Rock Sliders of the Frontier League professional summer wood-bat team.
The Sliders returned to “The Jack” in the summer of 2009 in the form of a Prospect League (summer collegiate wood-bat) franchise and and have now played their home games at SRU for four consecutive summers.
“The Jack” has also annually hosted Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association postseason and summer-league games.
