Rock and Roberts Wesleyan ends in 1-1 draw

The Slippery Rock men’s soccer team scores its fastest goal since 2005, but ends the game in a 1-1 draw in non-conference play against Roberts Wesleyan Wednesday at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team scores its fastest goal since 2005, but ends the game in a 1-1 draw in non-conference play against Roberts Wesleyan Wednesday at James Egli Field.

With the result, Slippery Rock's record moves to 1-1-2 overall, while Roberts Wesleyan now sits at 1-2-1.

Kaden Reynolds grabbed the goal for The Rock with Aashi Pandher and Troy Nine picking up one assist each. Nine's assist was Slippery Rock's first goalkeeper point since Kyle Hoffer's 90th minute game-tying goal in a, 3-2, double overtime victory against Shippensburg in 2015.

Reynolds led all shot-takers with five, including three on goal. Caleb Alldredge, Gabin Lonjard and Massimo Cuda each took two shots for SRU, with Lonjard landing one on goal. Pandher, Ryan Hanes and Jonathan Anthony rounded out Slippery Rock's shot-takers with one apiece.

Nine matched his career-high with four saves in the draw, making three stops in the first half and one in the second.

Reynolds struck for The Rock just 31 seconds into the game off assists from Pandher and Nine. The ball found its way to Nine, who sent a pass over almost everyone's head into the stride of Pandher. The senior found Reynolds with a pass through the middle and the forward made one move onto his left, beating the goalkeeper to the far post, giving SRU a 1-0 lead.

The Rock's marker was its fastest documented goal to start a game since 2005, when single-game records became available.

It took just over 20 minutes later for the Redhawks to find an equalizer from Noah Kaczanowski as he scored off a rebound after a shot from Ewan O'Dwyer-Hall, who earned the assist in the 22nd minute.

The best chance for the rest of the game on the foot of Lonjard, who hit the post from inside the box in the 77th minute.

The Rock outshot the Redhawks, 14-5, while Roberts Wesleyan had five shots on goal compared to Slippery Rock's two. SRU ended the game with a 7-5 corner kick advantage, while committing five more fouls (16-11).

Slippery Rock starts a four-game road trip with another non-conference matchup 6 p.m. Sept. 16 against Daemen University at Royal Park.
