SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division contest to Gannon University, 84-55, Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House.

Gannon (8-18, 8-12 PSAC West) put the game away early by outscoring Slippery Rock (9-16, 6-13) 24-5 in the first quarter. Slippery Rock regrouped following the opening 10 minutes and played even with the Golden Knights over the final 30 minutes of regulation, but was unable to overcome the 19-point lead GU established in the first quarter.

C.C. Dixon scored a team-high 13 points for The Rock while
Brooke Hinderliter added 11 points and four assists.
Morgan Henderson finished in double figures for a second consecutive game with 10 points to go with two steals and one block over 28 minutes.

Dixon is averaging 13.8 points per game over The Rock's last eight games.

Krista Pietropola came off the bench to score nine points while fellow reserves
Mallory Heinle and
LeeAnn Gibson chipped in seven and five rebounds, respectively.

As a team, Slippery Rock shot 30.6 percent (19-of-62) from the field overall, 19 percent (4-of-21) from 3-point range and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) from the free throw line. Saturday's game marked the second consecutive contest in which SRU has shot above 80 percent from the free throw line. SRU committed 15 turnovers while forcing the Golden Knights into 17 turnovers.

Maggie Mitchell scored 30 points and had five assists for Gannon. Lansie Saunders added a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds as well. For the game, Gannon shot 50 percent (30-for-60) from the field, 41.7 percent (10-for-24) from 3-point range and 93.5 percent (14-of-15) from the free throw line.

Prior to the game The Rock's 2016-17 senior class of
Lexi Carpenter and
Cassidy Wright were honored for their contributions to the program over their careers. Wright scored three points and had two assists while Carpenter, the PSAC's leading scorer, was sidelined due to injury.

Slippery Rock closes out the season with a pair of road games Feb. 22 at Edinboro and Feb. 25 at Pitt-Johnstown.
