Rock falls to East Stroudsburg in PSAC Tournament, 2-1

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest at East Stroudsburg in the quarterfinal match of the PSAC Tournament.

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest at East Stroudsburg University in the quarterfinal match of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday evening.

The Rock scored an early goal to take a 1-0 lead, but the Warriors answered back with a score of their own before the first half concluded. ESU then tallied a goal late in the second period and held on for the victory.

Slippery Rock struck first in the sixth minute when Brooke Testa floated a shot into the right side of the net off a pass from Tess Keeley. It was Testa's team-leading sixth goal of the season and Keeley's sixth assist of 2017. Keeley now ranks tied for eighth all-time in SRU women's soccer history with Cara Yannotti (2000-02) in career assists with 18.

The Rock almost struck again at 7:45 when Maddy Tletski fired one that goalkeeper Jules Harris was able to stop.

After controlling much of the first 30 minutes of play, East Stroudsburg leveled the score when Molly Vicari headed a ball in off a corner kick by Jessica Woodbyrne to make it a 1-1 contest. SRU and ESU entered the break tied, 1-1.

Coming out of halftime, Testa nearly scored again on a header at 50:37, but it barely went wide, keeping the score, 1-1.

At 66:17, Testa fired another shot that went wide. Testa finished the game with three shots including her one score.

Despite The Rock's early second half attack, the Warriors were able to hold off, and at 76:48, ESU's Monica Wood received a pass from Nicole Abbot off a throw-in, and deposited it into the net for the score. East Stroudsburg took a 2-1 lead.

Slippery Rock was unable to mount another attack in the final minutes, and ESU held on for the victory.

With the win, the Warriors advance to the semifinal round of the PSAC Tournament with a 13-3-3 record. East Stroudsburg will play the No. 2 seed Kutztown on Nov. 2.

The Rock concludes its season with a 10-6-2 record, its 20th consecutive season with at least 10 victories.
