ResultsALLENDALE, Mich. –
Kaitlyn Clark came away with an All-America finish in the pole vault to lead the Slippery Rock University women's track and field team Thursday on the opening day of the NCAA Division II National Championships from Grand Valley State University.
Â
Clark, who was appearing in her fourth career national meet and third outdoor national championship, cleared 3.70 meters to place in a tie for 12th overall and earn second team All-America honors from the U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. It marks the first All-America honor in Clark's career.
Â
The USTFCCCA has previously awarded All-America honors to the top eight finishers in individual events at the national meet but voted this year to make the top eight first team All-Americans and finishers 8-12 second team All-Americans.
Â
Clark passed on the opening height of 3.60 meters and then missed her first two attempts at 3.70 meters. She cleared her final attempt at 3.70 meters to earn her the All-America finish before missing all three attempts at 3.80 meters.
Â
Courtney McQuaide, just a freshman, finished tied for 16th in her first collegiate national competition. She missed her first two attempts at the opening height of 3.60 meters before clearing it on her third and final attempt. She then bowed out of the competition with three misses at 3.70 meters.
Â
Clark and McQuaide are two of the four Slippery Rock women competing at the National Championships over the next three days.
