WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team lost 3-0 at West Chester University Tuesday afternoon in the first round of the 2014 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament.

The loss eliminates SRU from conference tournament play and drops its record to 11-7 overall. West Chester improves to 10-7 and will move on to the PSAC Tournament semifinals to face top-seeded Mercyhurst on Friday.

The 11-win season was the third consecutive year that The Rock program has recorded at least 10 wins and the sixth in the last seven years.

Slippery Rock controlled possession and pace of play through the opening 45 minutes, but was unable to come away with the go-ahead goal despite holding a commanding edge over the Rams in total shots (7-3) and corner kicks (8-0).

Brandon Chiu, Mike Ilodigwe and Matt Sangermano all tallied shots on goal in the first half while Rock goalkeeper Steven Rerick stopped the only shot that came his way.

West Chester scored what appeared to be the game's first goal late in the period, but a Ram player was offside and the score was waived off.

The roles reversed in the second half as it was the Rams' offense who spent the majority of the opening portions of the final 45 minutes on the attack while the SRU defense cleared several scoring chances until the Rams' Brian Schaefer finally broke through with a goal off of a Brett Glasco pass to give West Chester the one-goal lead in the 65th minute.

Following the West Chester goal, Slippery Rock quickly responded with two shots, but Ilodigwe's attempt was blocked and Gabe Hrecznyj's attempt was stopped by West Chester goalie Matt Palmer to maintain the lead.

However, West Chester was able to add an insurance goal when Alex Lean scored unassisted at 77:15 to pull ahead 2-0. Brett Beaumont went on to add WCU's third goal of the day in the 86th minute en route to the 3-0 win.

Sangermano led all Rock players with three shots while Ilodigwe added a pair of attempts. Rerick ended the game with six saves.

For the game, WCU edged Slippery Rock 17-10 in total shots while Slippery Rock held a 9-7 lead in corner kicks.
