PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME NOTES
• This is the 35th PSAC Football Championship Game matching the top representative from the Eastern and Western Divisions. The game was played annually from 1960 through 1987 one week after the end of the regular season. At that time, there became additional opportunities for teams to make the Division II playoffs and the league voted to eliminate the game as to not interfere with those opportunities. The PSAC reinstated the game in 2008, this time matching the Divisional representatives in the last game of the regular season.

HOME TEAMS WINNING STREAK
• The home team has won each of the six PSAC Championship games since the 2008 reinstatement with each division champion winning on its home field in alternating years. California won in 2008, Mercyhurst in 2010 and Indiana in 2012 from the Western Divsion, while Shippensburg won in 2009, Kutztown in 2011 and Bloomsburg in 2013 from the Eastern Division.

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
• The PSAC has crowned a football champion in every year since 1934. A sportswriters poll was used to crown the champions from 1934-49. The Saylor Points System was used from 1950-59. The Championship game was used from 1960-87 and again from 2008 to today. From 1988-2007, the Division champions were recognized. Bloomsburg has won 17 PSAC titles under these formats, while Slippery Rock has claimed nine.

ROCK CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
• Slippery Rock has won at least a share of the PSAC-West title 14 times, including seven times under head coach George Mihalik. The Rock has claimed the outright PSAC Championship nine times and is looking for its first title since 2000. Slippery Rock and Bloomsburg are both making their third appearance in the PSAC Championship game since it was reinstated by the conference in 2008. No other programs in the league have reached the title game three times in that stretch.

SRU CHAMPIONSHIP GAME APPEARANCES
• Slippery Rock is making its third appearance in the title game since it was brought back in 2008 and its ninth overall appearance in the game.
• Slippery Rock is 0-2 since the reinstatement with losses to Kutztown in 2011 and Bloomsburg in 2013, both by one possession.
• The Rock is 4-4 all-time in PSAC title games with wins from 1972-74 over West Chester and a victory over East Stroudsburg in 1962.

BU CHAMPIONSHIP GAME APPEARANCES
• Like Slippery Rock, Bloomsburg is also making its third appearance in the PSAC Championship game since the 2008 reinstatement. The Huskies are making their fifth overall appearance.
• Bloomsburg is 2-2 all-time in PSAC title games and 1-1 since 2008 with a win last fall over SRU and a loss to Mercyhurst in 2010. The Huskies previous win came in 1985 against Indiana (Pa.). Bloomsburg is looking to become the first repeat PSAC Championship game winners since Indiana defeated West Chester in 1986 and 1987.

COACHING MATCHUP

• Bloomsburg head coach Paul Darragh is in his second season as the head coach of the Huskies, but is in his 18th consecutive season as a member of the coaching staff having served as the defensive coordinator from 1997-2012 before taking over as head coach. He has posted a 20-2 (.909) overall record as the head coach.

MIHALIK UP TO FOURTH
• Slippery Rock head coach George Mihalik moved into fourth on the PSAC all-time wins list two weeks ago when he passed former Indiana (Pa.) coach Frank Cignetti's 182 wins.

LAST MEETING - NOV. 16, 2013
• Slippery Rock led 28-13 midway through the third quarter, but Bloomsburg scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning touchdown with just 27 seconds left to steal a 42-38 win over SRU in the PSAC title game at Bloomsburg.
• Mike Wainauskis kicked a 24-yard field goal to put SRU up 38-35 with 2:16 to play, but Bloomsburg rode Harlon Hill winning running back Franklyn Quiteh on the game-winning drive inside the final minute.
• It was a tale of two different offenses, as Slippery Rock outgained Bloomsburg 343-173 in passing yards and the Huskies posted a 360-151 edge in rushing yards to finish with a 533-494 edge in total yardage.
• Quiteh ran for 231 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg. Tim Kelly completed 13-of-28 passes for 173 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

RUN DEFENSE EXCELS
• The Slippery Rock rush defense has been outstanding this season. The Rock ranks fifth among all Division II programs in that area, allowing just 81.5 yards per game. SRU held Clarion to just 40 total rushing yards last week and has now held opponents under 75 rushing yards in six of 10 games. The Rock defense has allowed just 119 rushing yards in the last three games combined (39.7 yards per game) in wins over Indiana (Pa.), Edinboro and Clarion.

POTENT OFFENSE
• Slippery Rock, led by the offensive line of Cory Tucker, Kirk Nypaver, Joe LoSchiavo, Kyle Henderson, Bill Whitaker and Nate Ehrlich, all returning starters from last fall except Ehrlich, has recorded total offensive outputs of more than 475 yards in 15 of the 22 games dating back to the first game of 2013. BUCK UNDER CENTER
• Slippery Rock started Jared Buck at quarterback each of the last four weeks after Buck had not started since the last game of the 2012 season against Bloomsburg. Buck sat behind PSAC-West Offensive Player of the Year Nigel Barksdale last year and suffered an injury during preseason camp this fall that took him out of contention for the starting role.
• Buck is completing 64% of his passes at 64-of-100 for 847 yards, nine touchdowns and just one interception. He has also rushed for 116 yards.

MARTIN SETS SACK RECORD
• Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Marcus Martin is having a monster season in his first year of collegiate competition. After his 10.0 sacks the last three weeks, Martin now leads the PSAC in sacks and tackles for loss with 16.0 sacks for a loss of 118 yards and 22.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 136 yards. He ranks second among all players in the nation in total sacks and sacks per game and ranks first in lost yardage from sacks. He has 6.5 more sacks than any other player in the PSAC and 4.0 tackles for loss more than any other PSAC player. Martin set a new single-season sack record at SRU, breaking the previous record of 12.0 held by SRU Hall of Famer Matt Kinsinger from 1997 and Tyler Boudreau in 2007.

WANNY'S BREAKOUT YEAR
• Placekicker Mike Wainauskis is enjoying the best season of his career at Slippery Rock, ranking second in the PSAC in field goal accuracy at 83.3 percent. He has connected on 10-of-12 kicks, including a career-long 41-yarder and a memorable field goal at Michigan Stadium. His 10 made field goals rank fifth on the single-season ledger at SRU.

CARTER'S CORNER
• Admire Carter has been The Rock's best cornerback this season and has the numbers to prove it. The senior has 14 pass breakups and three interceptions, including a crucial red zone pick late in the game in a 3-point win over Gannon and two picks against Edinboro. He ranks fifth among all players in Division II in passes defended (breakups + interceptions) with 1.9 per game. His 14 breakups this season rank second on the single-season ledger at SRU and his 33 career breakups also rank second on the all-time list at SRU.

SCALES ELECTRIC IN RETURN GAME
• Kick returner and wide receiver Drew Scales is having a breakout year for The Rock, threatening to take it to the house every time he catches a kick. Scales is averaging 27.0 yards per kickoff return and ranks 10th in the nation in combined return yards with 595 yards on kickoff returns and 183 yards on punt returns for 778 combined yards. He also has a 91-yard kickoff return for a TD this year and has three career return TDs.

BIG PLAYS

The Rock has scored 15 touchdowns on plays that went for 30 or more yards. Shamar Greene has three touchdown runs of more than 50 yards, Melvin German has four touchdown catches of more than 25 yards. Leroy McClain has two touchdowns of more than 30 yards. German also showed last week that he can throw it, completing a 33-yard TD pass out of the wildcat formation.

HUSKA'S QUIET YEAR
• Rock punter Andrew Huska is quietly having a good sophomore season after joining SRU as a transfer from Concord. He has punted 55 times for 2,078 yards, an average of 37.8 yards per kick, with eight touchbacks, 17 fair catches, 17 punts inside the 20-yard line and five kicks of 50 or more yards. The Rock has also not had a punt blocked this season.

MIELE ADJUSTING
• With all seven starting defensive lineman and linebackers from 2013 not returning for The Rock this fall, All-PSAC safety Austin Miele was asked to move up to the outside linebacker spot. He's adjusted well and is leading The Rock in tackles with 74, including 8.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He also has three interceptions, nine pass breakups, three quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery.

TRY TO KEEP UP
• Slippery Rock runs a quick strike, no-huddle offense that often times has fans, announcers and defenses struggling to keep up. The Rock has run more than 90 plays in six games this year and is averaging 85 offensive plays per game. SRU has only had seven drives all year that lasted more than four minutes. A total of 36 drives have lasted 60 seconds or less. Last week, Slippery Rock ran a season-high 101 plays in the victory at Clarion, averaging 5.9 yards per play.

TOUCHDOWN TEDDY
• Teddy Blakeman has rushed for at least one TD in 13 of 20 games he has played in at SRU. All together, Blakeman has accounted for 23 total touchdowns in his 20 games as a member of The Rock.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
• Slippery Rock has posted a 44-19 record at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium since turf and lights were installed in 2003. The Rock is 40-12 at home since 2005 and 22-4 at home since 2010. SRU is looking to complete its second straight undefeated season at home after going 5-0 in 2013. The Rock has owned the best attendance of all PSAC schools in each of the last five years and currently leads that category again in 2014.

125TH ANNIVERSARY UNIFORMS
• In honor of the 125th anniversary of Slippery Rock University, The Rock football team will wear special throwback elements that include a striped undershirt. The stripes are a throwback to the old long sleeve jerseys worn by players at Slippery Rock in the 1950s. The striped long sleeve jerseys were featured in a Sports Illustrated article about SRU football that appeared in print 60 years ago in the Nov. 15, 1954 issue.

SUPER REGION ONE RANKINGS
The third official NCAA regional rankings were released this week. The top six teams in the final ranking Nov. 16 will earn an NCAA playoff bid.

BEASTS OF THE EAST
• Bloomsburg won its third PSAC-East title in the last five years and its ninth since 2000 with a dominant run through the division this year. What was supposed to be the toughest test of the year, a showdown with NCAA playoff semifinalist West Chester, turned into a blowout as the Huskies routed their closest rival 41-10 three weeks ago to take over the No. 1 spot in the Super Region.

AGAINST THE WEST
• Bloomsburg's closest two games this year have come against teams from the PSAC-West. The Huskies narrowly escaped with a 24-21 overtime win over California at home in the first crossover of the year and then topped Mercyhurst 38-22 the following week before the Lakers made a quarterback change that sparked their impressive 6-0 turnaround. Slippery Rock fell to both California and Mercyhurst, its only two losses on the year.

BLOOMSBURG QUICK HITS
• Bloomsburg owns the fifth best defense in Division II in both total defense and scoring defense. The Huskies allow just 384.0 yards per game and only 12.6 points per game.
• Bloomsburg ranks first in the nation in turnover margin at +2.4 and first in total turnovers gained with 34. The Huskies have recorded 19 interceptions and recovered 15 fumbles.
• The game plan for the offense is pretty simple: run the ball. Bloomsburg has run the ball 443 times this season and thrown it just 209 times. The Huskies average 237.2 yards per game on the ground and just 146.8 through the air.
• Eddie Mateo leads the team with 1,048 rushing yards and an incredible 23 rushing touchdowns this year. He averages 113.9 yards per game, but sat out last week and is listed as a backup on the depth chart today.
• Dai'Shon Munger was listed by the Bloomsburg coaches as the starting running back this week. Munger has run the ball 130 times for 691 yards and three touchdowns.
• Tim Kelly is the starting quarterback and has been effective at managing the game. He has thrown it just 180 times with 103 completions, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He averages 150.9 yards per game, but is also the third leading rusher on the team with 307 rushing yards.
• Linebacker Justin Shirk is a top candidate for PSAC-East Defensive Player of the Year honors. He leads the team with 83 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.
• Three players have recorded three interceptions on the year in Donovan Morris, Tomas Cabrera and Jerrin Toomey.
• No receiver on the team has more than 23 catches and only one player, D.J. McFadden, has more than 20. McFadden leads the team with 23 catches for 425 yards and four touchdowns. No one else averages more than 24 yards per game.
