SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Former Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout Troy Mild will be honored Saturday as part of The Rock's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division game vs. Edinboro in Morrow Field House.
MIld finished his four-year collegiate playing career with 1,851 points and 792 rebounds, which currently put him as the No. 2 all-time scorer and No. 8 all-time rebounder in Rock men's basketball history. At the time of his graduation in 1984, he was The Rock's all-time leading scorer.
MIld averaged 21.6 points per game in his senior season, when he earned third-team National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America status and was named as the small-college district “Player of the Year” by both the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Press. He was also named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II South All-Star team and earned two first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division honors.
As a member of Rock teams coached by Dave Rooney, MIld helped the Green and White win 55% of their games and earn berths in three consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference postseason tournaments from 1982-84.
He was inducted into the SRU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.
"Troy Mild Day" festivities will start at 1:30 p.m. with a reception in Morrow Field House. Mild will also be spotlighted during a halftime ceremony.
"Troy Mild Day" is the third of four special events The Rock will hold as part of its 2009-10 men's basketball season.
The final event in the series will be held Feb. 20 when Bill Rausch, the fourth leading scorer in Rock history, will be spotlighted as part of the PSAC-West game vs. Clarion.
In earlier events, all-time leading scorer Myron Brown was honored at the Nov. 21 home game vs. Bloomsburg and the 1972-73 team was featured as part of the Jan. 30 game vs. Indiana.
